Not a Sports Fan, but I Love this Colorado Rockies T-Shirt

I am not a sports fan. I like playing sports, but watching them, following a team, the whole majesty of that is lost on me. My dear mother sent me a whole bunch of t-shirts and sweat pants that she got on clearance. In the mix was this Colorado Rockies t-shirt. It's this kimono sleeved garment with a large cowl neck and waistband. It is really comfortable and very soft. Only downside? It says Colorado Rockies on the front. Solution? Copy the pattern and make another.

All I did was trace the around the garment with my ponce wheel and then I flat patterned the collar and the waist band. The pattern boils down to five very simple shapes. I tested it our in this striped jersey from Joann's that I have had for forever.

I only had a yard of the fabric so I had to cut judiciously. I was very careful about my stripes and I have to say that I am really proud about how it matched up on the sleeves and side seams. It kind of chevrons on the sleeves and the stripes go right around the body on the side seams.

I also got to break out my coverstitch to do the edges of my sleeves and the collar. I used the triple top stitch and I think it came out great. It neatly follows the edge of the last stripe on the collar.

I am newly delving into knits and I have to say this project was fun and quick and may have me hooked on knit wear.

Teacup Dress Photo Shoot

As many of you have seen from my posts about Me Made May, my teacup dress has been getting lots of play. I LOVE IT! I don't know that I can say that strongly enough. It is fantastic. An amazing addition to my closet. About a week and a half ago I finally got to get together with my amazing photo friend Mary and she took some great shots of this dress. I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as we enjoyed taking them.

You can't see it as I am sitting in most of these but this dress has pockets which are totally clutch. Also we had a visitor while we were shooting.

Mrs. Mallard came right up close and considered joining our tea party. She thought the dress was stunning and that I should surely make myself another. I agree wholeheartedly ma'am, and I will do it!

Me Made May Week 1 Round Up

I have to say that I have never been so diligent with Me Made May. I am really having a blast wearing a hand made item every single day. Also as it would turn out my fear over not having enough items to wear seems to be unfounded. I have just been madly sewing everything I can get my hands on.

Day 1: Polka Dot/Wonderbread Dress

This is my Gertie's shirtwaist dress. From my post humbled by a dress.

Day 2: Teacup Dress

I know everyone is shocked that I would be at Joann's buying more fabric but it happened, deal with it. This is my teacup dress. I just did a photo shoot with it and it's was awesome. Post soon.

Day 3: Cowl Collar T-Shirt

This is a new pattern I'm working on. I copied it from a t-shirt that my mom sent me. I'm changing and perfecting it currently. I really love it and I wore it when we took our work study students roller skating. It was fun and breezy.

Day 4: McCalls 4769

This is my absolute favorite shirtdress pattern of all time. It just works. I'll be posing about this beauty soon.

Day 6: Butterick B6094

I made this one for Gertie's latest contest celebrating the release of her fabric line available at Joann Fabrics. I painstakingly matched the patterns on this dress. I love how it came out.

Day 6: Simplicity 1587

This dress is a mock up for a dress I'm making for my friend Semler. I love it! It was really comfortable. I definitely would've needed more fabric if the fabric had been directional.

Day 7: Sleeveless Bow Back Shirt

This shirt reminds me of my grandmother. It's classy with clean lines. It was fun to wear. I love the bow detail at the back. It's from the same pattern I draped to make my polka dot chambray dress for the spring for cotton sew along.

Day 8: Spring For Cotton Dress

Speaking of my spring for cotton dress. I love this dress and I think it looks really great in my wife's garden at our home in Virginia.

I am so loving this challenge for May. It has encouraged me to really push my makes to the front of my wardrobe. I've also felt an increased level of inspiration for creating my own things! Till next time!

Me Made May Day 2 & 3

Here we go with a little mini round up of my Me Made May outfits for May 2nd and May 3rd. On the 2nd I wore one of my absolute new favorites, my teacup dress. It is awesome for work and of course it has pockets. This dress is going to continue to get a lot of play. The lovely lady at the cutting counter at Joann's took this for me.

Yesterday on the third we took our work study students roller skating. I was vexed over what to wear and so I threw on this new cowl neck t-shirt I whipped up recently. I'm going to post about it soon, but it is really comfortable. Plus I got to throw on my skates!

These shorts are from 30 lbs ago, I had to lock them down with a belt, but it was so hot I could not wear pants! They were swimming on me. I think I see a shorts project in my future!

Me Made May Day 1

Hey everyone, it's that time of the year again. The magical and challenging month of Me Made May! I'm really excited about it. In years past I have had tons of stuff to choose from. This year I am down 30 lbs, which is very exciting, but it means that a lot of the things I have made before don't fit anymore. What that means is that in addition to wearing my makes this May, I will also be doing a lot of making. Lots of posts about new looks to look forward to.

For my first day of Me Made May I wore my polka dot dress, from my post Humbled by a Dress. This dress was a struggle to finish but it all came out in the end. A friend called it my wonderbread dress the other day. I love it! More about today's outfit, tomorrow!
