Recommitting

I am back here once again. It is a new year and one more time I am saying that I am going to be better about blogging and sharing my creations with the world. What makes it different this time? Well to be honest I'm not entirely sure. I have noticed in the last six months that I have been better at committing to things and following through. I know that is terribly vague, however it is true.

Three things have happened that have incited my belief that this is a new day and a good idea. Firstly, last August I got a new job; it has turned into a dream job. I am the new costume shop manager for Muhlenberg College, in Allentown, PA. I am back working in theater and teaching students. It has reinvigorated my already obsessive compulsion to sew. I used to sew at an interior design studio making pillows, slipcovers, and curtains and then go home and sew clothes for myself. I still do the same thing now, the only difference is that I am a hugely happy camper and sew with the joy of someone skipping through a field of flowers with a unicorn while it rains puppies.

This is no joke, that is my name plate outside the costume shop!

My Mom came to visit, so naturally we had to try on Tiaras.

Shop stache selfies.

Me and one of my co-workers at halloween. I went as a college student. It's sad that we have no fun at all at work.

I swear, leggings, Uggs, and Northface is all over this campus. But seriously, no fun.

Secondly, I am now a part of a roller derby team. To be fair I was part of a team of amazing women just before I left Virginia, now I am continuing that trend with a new group a beefy broads in PA. I love roller derby. I have always been involved in group sports but I always kind of hated to go to practice. I guess I enjoyed the games but the passion was never there. Playing roller derby I get excited to go to practice! I need you to truly understand, I get really excited for practice and then my hopes are dashed in the event that I can’t go or if it gets cancelled for weather. I have scrimmaged but I haven't even played a game yet, and I still happier than a kid in a candy shop. My commitment level to this sport has made me feel like perhaps now may be the time to make commitments in other areas of my life. By the way I have a sewing themed derby name, I am Pin Pushion.

These are a few shots from seasons beatings this year. I was on team elf, I made my own jersey and everything! It was a great reason to finally master my coverstitch machine.

My new team's colors are pink and black so I whipped up this little number too.

Lastly, after years of struggling with my weight I have lost 25 lbs. I have gone from a size 12 to a 6. I am only 5’2” and I don't think I realized how different I would feel being down 25 lbs. I feel great! Plus losing the weight has kind of magically evened out my proportions and I am sewing patterns in a straight pattern size fourteen. I used to have to do crazy full busts adjustments and then take in waists. It kind of removed some of the joy from a new projects to have to manipulate things so much. Now I don't have to do that as often and I am filled with a new hunger for sewing! I'm sure there will be new modifications I'll have to make but it's kind of exciting! Plus there is the fact that none of my other creations fit anymore and it is time to make new ones. Yay!

On the left is a photo of me as my mom's maid of honor 18 months ago, and on the right is me two weeks ago in a new dress I made. More on the dress later.

To sum up a long story, I'm proud of the recent commitments I've made and I look forward to making more. I'll be posting soon on some of my latest creations, so watch out!

    1. Hey Nothy,
I cannot even adequately express the level of fun! Roller derby, in terms of a hobby, comes in second to sewing which tops my list. So that is saying something.

    1. Kittee!
It's pretty great to be so happy at this point, I'm not going to lie to you. I'm so glad my blog is still on your radar after all my time away. I think we have a Rooibos to sew together, do we not?
